Golden Globe Arborvitae

Golden Globe Arborvitea I really had an enjoyable day Saturday. I have been looking for shrubs to plant in the beds at the front of the house and my husband really wanted arborvitae.

I have never been a big fan of conifers, but I told him that is what I would plant, but I had to find a variety that I liked. I have been looking for about a year. Well, I finally found them, Thuja occidentalis ‘Golden Globe’ known by the common name of golden globe arborvitae or golden globe cedar.

Golden globe arborvitae grows 3-4′ tall and 4-5′ wide in a broad globe shape. It has beautiful golden yellow to yellow-green lacy foliage that turns bronze-yellow in winter. Golden globe arborvitae is hardy to zone 3 and prefers full sun. The golden yellow color makes a nice contrast with the red brick of my house. I also think the color contrasts nicely with the other plants that are already in this same bed.
