Southern Perennial Gardening

My name is Donna Letson and I live and garden in zone 7b in Northwest Alabama with my wonderful husband who helps make my garden plans realty. I welcome you to Southern Perennial Gardening.

My first attempt at gardening was over twenty years ago. I planted japanese hollies around the foundation of our newly built home. Who knew you needed to water newly planted shrubs frequently until they were established. I suppose you can guess how that attempt turned out. I decided then that I needed to learn a little about gardening if I was going to attempt it.

I have been learning about gardening and enjoying gardening ever since. This site was created because of my love of gardening. My daughter (who loves to tell stories of being dragged around to garden centers and nurseries all the while telling me she didn’t like flowers) laughs when I say I never met a flower I didn’t like because she knows all too well it is true
