This rose is an old garden rose, called climbing Cramoisi Superieur. It is a china rose, which are supposed to be especially well suited to the southern climate. It has a wonderful fragrance and is very disease resistant. Read the rest of this entry »

We went horseback riding yesterday and seeing some of the kudzu covered countryside made me think of this. I have no idea who the original author is.

For those of you not from the south, Kudzu was introduced to the south earlier this century in an attempt to provide improved fodder for cattle. Cattle love kudzu but not nearly as much as kudzu loves the South. The southern climate provide nearly ideal growing conditions for this rapid growing and hardy perennial (that’s “hardy”, as in calling nuclear weapons “explosive”). Read the rest of this entry »
